Among the tens of thousands of protesters to hit the streets of New York City for the #MillionsMarchNYC protest this past Saturday (Dec. 13), was Nas and Russell Simmons. Chanting alongside demonstrators against the police brutality that claimed the lives of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, Akai Gurley and a slew of other victims. Speaking with Revolt TV, Nas and Simmons commented on the impact of the march.
“This is beautiful, man,” Nas said. “We need justice, that’s why we here. It’s beautiful. Look at that. The people are speaking, look at that.”
With confidence in the effectiveness of the protests taking place, Simmons remarked that law enforcement reform is inevitable. Calling police work “a selfless, thankless job,” the hip-hop mogul said that the demonstrations are shedding light on the difficulty to get the authorities to police themselves.
“It’s the culmination and beginning of — at the same time — a lot of hard work and the beginning of a shift, and I know for sure that there’ll be a change in the way the police, police the police,” he said. “ It’s not possible that it will continue.”
