Singer-songwriter Elijah Blake taps into a dark place on his newest single “6/Fallen.”
The No I.D and James Poyser produced ballad finds Blake unearthing old wounds from his childhood. The Roc Nation artist who penned Usher’s “Climax” and also worked with J. Cole and Common, speaks honestly about an absentee father and his scary introduction to religion, which has left him suffering from nightmares.
“Now my relationships suffer, I can’t lead a normal life/ But your philosophies daddy, said it’s alright to scare off to Christ/ So when I’m selfish and needy or I act like a spoiled brat, just try to function normally with a mother playing mom and dad.”
While singing–and sometimes screaming at the top of his lungs–Blake confronts his dark younger years.
