The highly anticipated release dubbed “Goodbye Horses”, compliments of the multi-faceted DJ/producer Tone Of Arc, has finally become available to the masses. Derrick Boyd is one of underground’s most interesting success stories with his unconventional live apparatus approach to production. Integrating the use of live vocals with instruments and tweaking electronically, the San Francisco based producer has put forth a gem. His talent has been recognized by the masses and industry folk such as, No.19 label boss and 1/2 of Art Department, Jonny White.
Truly making Tone Of Arc one of the family, No.19 has fully embraced the innovative techniques and styles that he showcases. On the heels of this massive release, the official video was a team effort between Boyd and Mr.White and truly offers an insight into their vision.
As for the EP, “Goodbye Horses” is a captivating cover of the infamous ’80s tune from Q Lazzarus that was also featured in “Silence Of The Lambs”. Boyd remains faithful to the original composition while infusing dark synths and his passionate voice. Also included on the EP is another original from Boyd called ‘Soundsail’ featuring the vocals of Zoe Presnick, which is a perfect mesh between euphoric piano sounds and rhythmic bass while Presnick provides powerful vocals. ‘Soundsail’ adds another level of depth to the EP.
On remixing duties, Boyd invited the very talented Deniz Kurtel to offer her take on ‘Soundsail’. Definitely a tad different then the other two tracks on this release, Deniz manages to take the vocals and wrap it around a more subtle yet melodic bass line.
Already climbing the Beatport charts at record pace, “Goodbye Horse” is available digitally and on vinyl. Check out the official video below!
