The latest offering from Flying Lotus comes in the form of spiritual freedom. In the video for his “Never Catch Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar, we don’t see Lotus or Kendrick Lamar, who contributes a verse, but the message is powerful enough on its own. We first see mourners at a funeral for two young children.
The first emotion to register is sadness, until the script flips and the young boy and girl rise from their coffins, dancing jubilantly throughout the sanctuary then out into the streets. These, of course, represent their spirits being finally freed. Aside from the positive spin on a dismal situation, the dance movies these two kids have are quite the sight to see. “Never Catch Me” is a song off Lotus’ forthcoming You’re Dead! LP.
