For 40 years, Aretha Franklin held the title for most Billboard Hot 100 hits by any female artist. The accomplishment was especially impressive for the Queen of Soul being as though the the chart history has only been around for 58 years. However, all records are meant to be broken and on Monday, (March 20) Billboard reported Nicki Minaj surpassed Ms. Franklin.
The “Respect” artist earned 73 Billboard Hot 100 singles, however the Pinkprint artist now has 76 Hot 100 singles due to “Regret In Your Tears,” “Charged It” featuring Lil Wayne and “No Frauds” featuring her Young Money brothers Drake and Weezy.
Nicki tied the musical legend with her verse on Gucci Mane’s “Make Love” earlier this year which sent the not-so subliminal feud between her and Remy Ma into overdrive. The result was The Bronx emcee’s “ShETHER” track, which according to the Internet earned Remy the W. However, since Nicki is in the business of putting numbers on the board, having broken Aretha Franklin’s 40 year record largely due to her “No Frauds” response, it would appear as though Ms. Minaj accomplished what she set out to do.
Congrats Nicki.
