Once Nicki Minaj released her fourth studio album Queen (Aug. 10), listeners carved out time to dissect to her 19-track offering. From a slew of tweets, it was clear to see that the head Barb-in-charge wasted no time by track three, titled “Barbie Dreams,” where she name-dropped the who’s who of today’s entertainment and rap industry.
Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, Desiigner, and others were the objects of Minaj’s lyrical aim and even Meek Mill, who was romantically linked to Minaj in 2017 was also a target. “Meek still be in my DMs/I be having to duck him/ ‘I used to pray for times like this’/ Face a** when I f**k him,” she raps.
Once the melody, that’s an interpretation of Biggie Smalls‘ 1994 song “Just Playing (Dreams),” became increasingly popular, Minaj decided to clear the air and said on her Queen Radio show on Beats 1, “You guys know ‘Barbie Dreams’ is not a diss, right? It’s just some funny sh*t. I love them. I said things about people who I know can take a joke and won’t be emotional about it.”
