Nicki Minaj is increasing her presence on several media platforms as she gears up for the release of Queen (Aug. 17). MTV announced that the native New Yorker will perform at an “iconic” Big Apple location for the network’s annual Video Music Awards.
The “Chun-Li” rapper joins a growing list of artists to take center stage, including Travis Scott, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Logic, and the showcase’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient Jennifer Lopez.
To get the Barbz excited for her forthcoming project, Minaj announced the debut of “Queen Radio” on Beats 1, signaling the beginning of a “dynasty” that’ll commence at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday (Aug. 9). “And I might have something special for you too!” Minaj added.
Queen will be the Young Money cohort’s fourth studio album. It arrives four years after she released The Pinkprint, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. In an interview with ELLE, Minaj said moments of re-discovery helped to influence her highly-anticipated opus. “I went through a moment where I got to know myself again, and then I went through a moment where I got to know myself as a rapper again,” she said.
The MTV VMAs airs from Radio City Music Hall on Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. EST.
