There’s a massive new art piece in Atlanta honoring Outkast. Fans have been flocking to take photos in front of the 35-foot tall art piece, which was unveiled in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood last weekend as part of a collaboration between WISH ATL and Atlanta’s Outer Space Project.
The intricate painting was created by artist JEKS, and is located behind WISH ATL. Big Boi reposted a few images of fans posing in front of the mural on Friday (Oct. 25).
The black-and-white painting recaptures an image of Big Boi and Andre 3000 taken by famed hip-hop photographer Jonathan Mannion. Mannion, who also shot the cover of Outkast’s Speakerboxx/Love Below album cover, has photographed numerous hip-hop artists over the years, including album art work for Jay Z, DMX, Eve, Public Enemy, Trina, LL Cool J, and Lil Wayne.
JEKS told CNN that he was pleasantly surprised by the mural’s popularity. “Each day I painted, more and more people would stop by. I hoped the piece would make a positive impact in the community and cause some local buzz, but I didn’t think it would blow up like it has. The amount of posts, messages, and ‘thank you’s’ I’ve received are almost overwhelming.”
