Pharrell’s hit-smash “Happy” is officially a children’s book, and he wants it to be one filled that kids will take with them in life.
During a press conference for the book held on Tuesday (Oct. 6), the musician was greeted by a drove of adorable British school children anxious to ask him the burning questions – from his all-time favorite song to if he likes chicken nuggets to whether he has any pets (none really, except for the “five raccoons” that like to congregate on his lawn). He answered those and also told the young crowd that the book was made for them.
“This is my first venture into publishing,” he said. “And honestly, I have to say there’s no greater way this could have ever happened. Because honestly, the book is for you. The book is for you and your friends. And it’s an iteration of the song that I had a couple years back. But I think more than anything else…having it in book form allows you guys to really get the worth of the lyrics.”
The eager reporters also asked very insightful questions, such as “what his favorite page” in the book is (if you’re wondering, it’s the page dedicated to his six-year-old son, Rocket) and why he wanted to make a book for kids. His answer?
“I’m still a big kid, and I don’t wanna lose that. So in order to not lose it, one has to continue to do things that is fun, and you have to continue to give back to what’s given you so much, which are the kids.” “Happy” became a smash-hit after being featured in the kid’s film, Despicable Me. The book is available for purchase online here.
