Next month, A Tribe Called Quest’s classic debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm turns 25. The New York rap group’s influence on the game persists and won’t be going anywhere. You can tell byu the array of new artists who sound like they have Native Tongues DNA all up in their music .
In honor of People’s Instinctive Travels anniversary, the group is re-releasing the album, complete with new remixes. Pharrell was able to get his hands on “Bonita Applebum,” and freak it into a drum and bass number reminiscent of his own early 90s production. Pharrell hypnotizes rather than seduces, making a song that sizzled 25 years ago, into something that’s absolutely smoldering in 2015.
