Fans of the late Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor may be able to hear the Trini Gladiator’s words again, as his widow hinted that a posthumous solo album from the musician may be released in 2017.
OkayPlayer reports that during a ceremony in Queens, N.Y. in which a block was co-named in honor of the Five Foot Assassin, Desha Head Taylor offered up a wealth of information about her husband’s music.
“His solo album will be out probably sometime during the first quarter of 2017. We’re working on it now,” she reportedly said. “He completed his entire solo album before he transitioned, so we’re excited about releasing that.”
Phife’s group, A Tribe Called Quest, released their final studio album We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service on Nov. 11, and the LP is currently the number one album in America. It was the Tribe’s first album in 18 years, and the last Phife recorded with them before passing away earlier this year from diabetes complications at the age of 45.
