Emcees in Houston’s historic rap scene stay loyal to their soil, and Slim Thug is no different. After over a decade in the game, the O.G. Texascrhymer sits upon the throne as the “King” in the lead single from his new album Hogg Life 4: American King. Slim, who has grown and prospered significantly since his “Still Tippin'” days, is making numerous boss moves in music, business, and his community with his latest LP.
“It’s just growing up,” Slim Thug told VIBE. “If I still had the braids and a gold grill doing whatever I was doing 10 years ago, I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. As I grow up, I’m keeping it real. I’m not trying to act like a kid either, you know what I’m saying, or do kid shit. I’m talking about what’s going on right now with my music. I’m just really being myself in my music and talking about what’s going on with my life, how I feel, and where I’m at. So everything with me is just natural.”

The H-Town vet stays true to the Trill sound and keeps it 1000 on American King, which features the likes of Boosie Badazz, Nikki Lactson, X.O. and more. Aside from the highly anticipated album, Slim is also doing his part to help his community by creating a trade school program, for high school students, flourishing his business Boss Life Construction, which gives loans and down payments to people with bad credit so that they can build homes, and utilizing black-owned banks like Unity National Bank in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Today (Aug 22), Slim Thug takes us through his hometown and gives us a glimpse of the Hogg Life. After he pays a visit to his go-to barbershop, the “King” checks up on his Boss Life Construction projects and grabs a bite to eat at his favorite BBQ joint all while sitting upon an all-black throne.
