News rang throughout the globe that one of music’s iconic artists, Prince, passed away at the age of 57 (April 21). The pioneering musician was found unresponsive inside his Paisley Park estate and medical officials were unsuccessful in reviving him upon their discovery.
Then began the process of determining the clear factor in the “Purple Rain” singer’s death. There was speculation that he passed from a prescription pill overdose, which was reportedly used to combat pains he felt following a hip replacement surgery in 2010. He was also rushed to a hospital following a concert in Atlanta, Ga., where he was treated for flu-like symptoms.
According to the Associated Press, law enforcement officials have now confirmed that Prince died from an opioid overdose. An autopsy was performed last month, but officials shared that it would take a few weeks or months to correctly determine the cause of Prince’s death, until today when they unveiled their medical findings.
