Entertainment Weekly reports the show titled “Good Night Sweet Prince” will feature a medley of performances by the singer, who appeared as a musical guest in 2014, 2006 and 1981. He also performed during the show’s 15th anniversary in 1989 and an impromptu jam session with Jimmy Fallon, Maya Rudolph, Bill Murray and other SNL legends at the afterparty for the show’s 40th anniversary in February 2015.
According to The Wrap, CEO Alki David of Hologram USA threw out the idea to bring back the singer with the power of technology in the near future.
“We are mourning the loss of Prince along with his millions of fans,” he said. “If at some point in the future his estate and the fans feel a hologram performance would be a fitting tribute, we’d be honored to celebrate the Sexy Motherf***er in every way.”
It might be a little too soon to think of a hologram, but the love is appreciated..right? The company brought back to life Michael Jackson five years after his death for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards and Tupac Shakur 16 years after his passing for a 2012 performance at Coachella.
The SNL tribute will air tonight at 11:30 p.m.
