It’s official: Saturday (Nov. 1) cannot come fast enough.
Not only will Chris Rock and Prince be appearing on Saturday Night Live at the same damn time, but The Purple One will perform for eight minutes straight. Because he is Prince and he can do that, the legendary singer has opted for lengthy stretch instead of the two performances every other guest who isn’t Prince usually does.
The upcoming show will be Rock’s first appearance on SNL in 18 years, and Prince’s first in eight. With “monumental” being a good operative word, Prince will be on tap for cuts from his Art Official Age and PLECTRUMELECTRUM albums, while Rock will plug his upcoming film Top Five.
Last week, Rock – a Prince stan – praised the singer’s classic opus Purple Rain in honor of its 30-year anniversary. He put the album past Michael Jackson’ Thriller.
“There’s not a bad record on Purple Rain,” he said. “Thriller is allegedly the best album of all time, and that has at least two bad songs on it. There’s no ‘Baby Be Mine’ on Purple Rain.”
And now, we await the Saturday Night Live episode. Mark your calendars and set your alarms.
