As fans continue to debate the results of the 61st Grammy Awards, Pusha-T hopped in the discussion to offer his final thoughts on the matter. The Grammy-nominated artist released a statement about the Best Rap Album category on Twitter on Monday (Feb. 11).
Pusha addressed the controversy surrounding Cardi B’s win for Best Rap Album for her debut project, Invasion of Privacy. Many fans argued that Pusha, who was also nominated in that category for his studio album Daytona, should have won instead of the Bronx newcomer. Despite fan opinions however, Pusha congratulated Cardi on her win.
“Had an amazing Grammy experience, nominated with a group of my peers that I’ve supported publicly via my socials at one time or another, each and every one of them. Honored to be part of the bunch,” he wrote. “Congrats 2 @iamcardib for winning and 4 having the best performance of the night.”
He also thank the Recording Academy for his consideration. “Honored to be nominated as I don’t feel I’ve ever seen an album this concentrated in pure street content ever acknowledged by the @RecordingAcad , def not in 7 songs,” he added. “Changing the silhouette and reaching new heights for lyric driven, street hip hop. This nomination was for ‘us.'”
Although some people are upset, much of the hip-hop community is praising Cardi for becoming the eighth female artist to win Best Rap Album in history. She is the first, solo female rapper to receive the award in history.
