What is going in the land of ’90s R&B groups? First Dru Hill and their shoegate photoshop debacle and now 112 has come apart at the seems. According to TMZ, the beloved quartet has become a duo after Slim and Mike revealed Q and Daron left the group.
Mike, real name, Michael Marcel Keith, said the split came as a result of an argument the group couldn’t resolve. Keith, 39, didn’t detail exactly what happened but said they hope to still keep the group’s brand alive.
“It’s disappointing what’s going on right now, but the fact of the matter is Slim and myself are keeping the 112 legacy moving forward,” Keith said.
Fans of the Bad Boy ensemble were elated to see them when Diddy reunited the label for his Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour. The group released their sixth studio album Q Mike Slim Daron shortly after in 2017.
Slim, however, went into more detail about the argument and said more than words have been said.
“I just want the fans to know I’m sorry. I know how the fans were when all four of us came back together. I didn’t come back for this. I’m being sued, and I’m just going to keep it real. I’ve never taken from them. I’ve never cheated them. I’ve risked everything personally, and y’all know what I’m talking about, for this brand.”
In 1996, the Atlanta natives released their self-titled debut album, which featured the hit “Cupid.” The ballad would peak at No. 13 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts and No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
When asked if they plan on replacing the members who exited the group, Mike said no. “We’re not going to replace anybody. We’re going to keep it Slim and myself and we have two dancers.”
