Not even 12 hours after his interview with Gayle King for CBS This Morning aired, R. Kelly is back in police custody. The controversial R&B singer was arrested after a hearing for unpaid child support. Reports state that Kelly, who is also facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, will reportedly sit in jail until he pays what he owes in child support.
“Kelly faced a charge of failure to pay $161,000 in back child support,” reports USA Today on Kelly’s latest jail stint. “Failure to pay child support in any amount over $20,000 is a felony under Illinois law.” Andrea Kelly, the musician’s ex-wife, claims that he stopped paying child support in summer 2018. His daughter, who goes by Buku Abi, wrote in an Instagram post that she has not spoken to her father in years.
With the help of Valencia Love, Kelly posted 10 percent of his million-dollar bail during his first jail stint late last month. He was able to leave the Cook County Department of Corrections on Feb. 25.
During his explosive interview with CBS This Morning, the musician maintained his innocence among the current sexual abuse charges coming from four women, three of which are minors.
“Use your common sense,” he said. “Forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to, love me if you want. Just use your common sense… How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I have been through in my way-way past?”
