According to court documents obtained by The Blast, R. Kelly has a negative bank account balance. Per the report, “Wintrust Bank, where Kelly holds an account, informed one of his creditors (his former landlord) that the singer currently has a balance of negative $13 with them.”
The reason for the negative balance? Over $150,000 in holdings from two accounts with Bank Of America were seized by the disgraced musician’s former landlord to settle a debt. All that was left was $625.
This debt is in addition to the $160,000 he owed his ex-wife Andrea for unpaid child support. However, with the help of a friend, that debt was paid back in March.
To make matters more dire, Kelly’s music royalties were reportedly seized to pay back rent on his Chicago recording studio. His former landlord subpoenaed Sony Music Holdings Inc. to freeze over $260,000 of his biannual music royalties. He still reportedly owes almost $53,000 to his former landlord, Midwest Commercial funding.
Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse back in February. Cameras are allowed in the court room during his trial. If convicted, he faces a maximum of up to 70 years behind bars.
