Remember “Trapped In The Closet,” that 33-chapter story by R. Kelly that you thought would never end? Well here’s proof that the singer is still into rambling long melodies. To accompany his recent GQ feature, Kellz was asked to provide a sung version of his life story, and the full video rounded out to a whopping 45 minutes. Taking his listener through his journey from singing on the streets of Chicago, to his aim to be a “shooting star,” R. Kelly belts out melodies on the fly.
“Losing is only temporary. Losing is a rehearsal,” he said. “We all lose in rehearsal, all the time. Over and over again until we get it right, But that’s the point of rehearsal.”
Kelly shared a bevy of anecdotes, from incorporating Chicago’s “L” train into his street performance, to asking for his mother’s hand in marriage, to sharing his lofty aspirations with people. If you have an extra 45 minutes in your day to dedicate to R. Kelly, quotes-on-quotes will occur, such as: “If I’m going to star, I want to be a shooting star. i don’t want to be seen all the time. I’m not about sitting around in the sky. I want to soar through the sky!”
According to the philosophy of Kelly, “space is the limit.” So what’s nearly an hour? Press play below if you dare.
