Like many other social media trends, the #MannequinChallenge has taken over Instagram feeds and Twitter timelines everywhere—becoming a pop culture phenomenon. For Rae Sremmurd, the fun trend has brought them colossal success.
On Monday (Nov. 14), the Mississippi rap duo stopped by ESPN’s SportsCenter, and discussed how they got wind of the challenge, along with how they have profited from it. The segment started out with them recreating their mannequin challenge with the show’s hosts.
“I was going through Twitter and I seen a video of little high schoolers doing a Mannequin Challenge and I thought it was cool. I brought it to everybody and was like ‘We’re gonna do one.’ We did our video to ‘Black Beatles’ and made the freshest video ever and it just went crazy, dumb viral mannequin,” explained Slim Jxmmi.
Despite the viral success of the challenge, Jxmmi affirms they won’t be missing out on any monetary benefits from it. “I don’t think Ear Drummers is going to escape the paycheck though. It’s coming to us,” he said. His sentiment seems accurate as their new hit is doing well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, presiding at No. 1.
When asked what their favorite moments from the challenge are, they said Paul McCartney and the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleaders. Watch the segment below.
