Across the pond, musicians are bred with endless amounts of soul. Raheem Bakare from South London is no different. After praise from Hypetrak and MTV for his diverse R&B palette on his AWOL EP, Bakare returns with a new jam, “Forever You.”
The silky and intoxicating jam was produced by MJ Nichols, who has worked with the likes of Bobby Shmurda and Earl Sweatshirt, and was written by Bakare and Javal Stewart. It’s about an ex of the singer who had “fallen out of love.”
“The sentiment behind ‘Forever You’ tackles the vulnerable state of not being ready to give up on the foundations built with your partner as she would forever be the one in my heart,” he says. “The harsh reality is that I’d ultimately have to say ‘F*ck You’ to ever let go, hence #FU.” The song premiered on Tuesday (Feb. 16) on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
His critically- acclaimed AWOL features rising star Tanika on his successful single “Purple Sky,” and has received cosigns from Twin B, DJ Target, MistaJam, CJ Beatz and Sian Anderson at BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Rinse FM and BANG Radio. He’s performed at Reading & Leeds, the Soul Acoustic tour and BET’s ‘Music Matters’ in New York. He is also making his mark by working with Stateside musicians. He assisted D’Angelo in 2015 during three shows at the Black Messiah crooner’s UK tour stop and also accompanied Musiq Soulchild at the latter’s 2015 event, “An Evening of Neo Soul.”
