For the past 20 years, California rapper Ras Kass has used his defensive bars to stand up against haters who have undermined his true skills as an artist. Now he’s packing punches in his raps to take a stand against the ongoing police brutality and gun violence that plagues ethnic communities in his state and around the country.
With the help of producer Statik Selektah, the Soul On Ice lyricist reflects on the unjust deaths of Black men throughout history from Emmitt Till to the most recent deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling. Ras Kass joins other heavyweight emcees like Jay Z, Drake, Scarface, Swizz Beats and more, who have all expressed their opinions about the recent string of police brutality that hit Baton Rouge, LA and Falcon Heights, Minn. There’s no confirmation yet if the song will be featured on his forthcoming album Soul On Ice 2.
