Time flies when you’re enjoying your freedom, and Remy Ma is grateful for hers.
On August 1, 2014, the Bronx-bred rapstress was released from prison after a six-year stint at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York. Charged with assault, coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon, Remy’s original release date was scheduled the day before, but met with a “disciplinary” delay. Taking to Instagram on the one-year anniversary of her release, Remy reflected on her thoughts back then, and expressed thankfulness for the simple joy of waking up in her own bed:

“At this moment 1 year ago I was sitting in a cell wondering when I was coming home. I had actually gave up hoping that it would even happen. I was supposed to be released July 31, 2014 & I had woke up on August 1, 2014 STILL in prison; I was devastated. Yet, by the grace of my merciful God, I was able to awake the next day at home, in my bed, and post my 1st selfie. At this moment I was so happy but still in shock that I was actually ‘free'”
