After a rocky couple of weeks, Kanye West has been on the minds of friends, family and fans alike. While onlookers are skeptical about his present state of mind amid concert rants and cancellations and hospital check-ins, some of his famous friends have been stepping in to put his name back into some positive headlines.
Rhymefest has done exactly that by purchasing Ye’s childhood home in Chicago for Donda’s House, a youth-focused foundation erected in honor of Kanye’s late mother Dr. Donda West, to put it to good use. The South Shore abode will serve not only as the official headquarters for the organization, but also an art recording studio, community space and South Side museum.
Rhymefest—né Che Smith—serves as Donda’s House’s Creative Director, while his wife Donnie Smith helms as the Executive Director. According to an interview with Billboard, he has a lofty goal to expand this community investment, eventually buying entire blocks and providing stable homes and jobs for Donda’s House students.
