Rihanna has always shown herself to be a socially conscious celebrity and since the start of Donald Trump’s presidency, she has voiced her distaste for him and his rhetoric. Always known to take shots at him on social media, the Bajan beauty most recently took to Twitter to protest Trump’s cruel persecution of immigrant families with the help of her new, luxury line Fenty.
The tweet, with Trump mentioned in it, consisted of a photo of Fenty’s newly released T-shirt, designed with the word “immigrant” on it. It garnered a wave of attention that during the 2019 BET Awards, the songstress was asked about her thoughts on Trump’s immigration policy and how to show support for immigrants, being an immigrant herself.
“I think in any situation where it’s something devastating as what’s happening in America right now with the immigrants, you have to be as loud as you can,” she said in an interview with The Root. “You have to raise as much awareness, and not just that, but just as a whole, as a nation, just put all your heads together and put your voices together and be as loud as possible, because that’s the only way politicians and the government actually listen, when they feel like their country is as concerned as the matter is concerning.”

Trump has uncharacteristically not lashed out in response to Rihanna’s tweet. The “immigrant” T-shirt, that Rihanna has since described as a “prideful word,” is one of many socially aware moves the superstar is making through her Fenty line. At the Fenty Soho pop up shop, currently in New York City until June 30, curvy mannequins with “love handles” and a “stomach pouch,” grace the store, showing that RiRi is about inclusivity all across the board.
