Since the establishment of Rihanna‘s Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012, the Bajan superstar has amplified her mission to aid the world’s least fortunate. Through the influence of her annual Diamond Ball fundraiser, the “Stay” singer turned toward the power of words to reiterate her quest to instate adequate education for those in impoverished countries.
In an op-ed for The Guardian, the 30-year-old artist said education has become a central part of her philanthropy endeavors. “The notion that millions of children are desperate to go to school and are not given the opportunity is something I cannot accept,” she stated. The award-winning singer also revealed that “a quarter of a billion children and teens” around the world don’t have access to getting an education. Factors such as natural disasters, ineffective “public policy,” and poverty can play a role in hindering a child’s education prowess.
“Imagine a world where millions of children, previously left to fend for themselves, are given the chance to learn,” she writes. “When it comes to helping the world’s poorest children, as well as the communities and societies in which they live, I’m still learning — and I need others to join me on the journey and use their voices alongside mine.”
