Thursday morning (June 30), Rihanna premiered the new music video for her Star Trek: Beyond single “Sledgehammer” in IMAX theaters, and it’s full of intergalactic black girl magic.
Filmed by Floria Sigismondi, who also directed the music video for “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake, this video takes viewers through a galaxy rich with brilliant shades of pink, blue and purple to a barren planet ruled by bad gal Rih. Adorned in gold jewelry and blue face paint, the “Work” songstress manipulates the elements as the draping orange-red ensemble billows in the wind.
The setting seems fitting to be paired with the Sia-penned song. Rihanna sings of finding new strength and self discovery after destruction. From nothing–or a barren planet–she found beauty.
