A suspicious package was sent to the Tribeca, N.Y. production studio of the Oscar-winning actor on Thursday (Oct. 25). None of the package recipients have been hurt, and De Niro is taking the unfortunate and scary circumstance to raise his voice for the good of the people.
“I thank God no one’s been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us,” De Niro said in a statement, per Deadline. “There’s something more powerful than bombs, and that’s your vote. People MUST vote!”
As of press time, 12 packages were sent to Democratic figures and critics of 45, such as De Niro, the Obamas, the Clintons and Maxine Waters. Authorities are keeping a close eye on Florida, as they believe many of the packages have origins in the Sunshine State.
“Law enforcement officials told The Associated Press that the devices, containing timers and batteries, were not rigged like booby-trapped package bombs that would explode upon opening,” per the Associated Press. “But they were uncertain whether the devices were poorly designed or never intended to cause physical harm.”
Remember to vote on Nov. 6.
