Helen Folassade Adu has serenaded fans for decades. Her velvety voice has long kept us company and helped fans the world over unwind after a long day’s work. But as of late, the singer-songwriter famously known as Sade has remained quiet. In March 2018, she emerged and released “Flowers of The Universe” for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time.
Now she’s returned with “The Big Unknown” to be featured in Steve McQueen’s upcoming film Widows. The Academy-Award winning British director said after a few conversations her urged Sade to dig deep to write and create a song that best summarizes the film’s last scene.
“It was an honor to work with such a legend. Sade is an incomparable talent and incredible artist who so rarely releases new material, but luckily the original series of Widows had deeply resonated with her,” McQueen said.
The film bears its name from the beloved UK television series.
The lyric video features Academy-Award winning actress Viola Davis, who plays Veronica, staring outside of her Chicago penthouse. The soundtrack also features music from Nina Simone and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.
Widows hit theaters Nov. 16.
