For nearly two decades now, Mobb Deep’s 1995 album The Infamoushas yielded a bit of a secret. Except for very selcect bunch of cratediggers who stayed mum — nobody could pinpoint what the sample was used on Havoc & Prodigy’s “Survival Of The Fittest.” However, now, thanks to some handy work and some track manipulation, we finally have an answer.
Ivan Rott of Hip Hop Is Read posted the once unknown sample after a YouTube user by the name of SaintsIV found the Barry Harris Trio & Al Cohn record, “Skylar.” The jazzy record contains the gem of a sample right around the beginning if you slow down and isolate the opening piano riff.
Now that that’s taken care of, we need to once and for all figure out what Young Thug is saying on “Lifestyle” (joking).
