“Matt, do the sausage thing,” are words Matthew Bellamy’s classmates in a video that went viral and lead to the #SausageMovement. However, rapper Lil Mama left those words and any indication of Bellamy out in her latest song, “Sausage.” And when the music video came out, neither Bellamy’s name nor image received any credit. She did, though, reference other artists in the lyrics and music video. Bellamy corrected Lil Mama’s video with a video of his own on Youtube and plans to make his own music video for “Sausage.”
“I am the creator if the Sausage Movement. The original creator, first one, and the one who invented it,” Bellamy said.
According to Bellamy, he created the song with a friend at high school basketball practice. While in class, he gave an impromptu performance, keeping the original “Grits with the cheese with the eggs. Sausage!” but adding, “Everybody say ‘Sausage,’ keep it going!” As the video became viral, viewers including Vine stars and members of the US Army made their own videos with changes to the original lyrics.
“[Lil Mama] told me she was just keeping it going like everybody else making the video,” said Bellamy, “But they tagged me in it. Every time someone makes a video about ‘Sausage,’ I get tagged on Instagram and they let me know. I say, ‘Thanks for supporting the movement.’”

Bellamy said he had no intentions of suing but wanted to contact her because a person of her level of fame having caught onto his movement with a song meant that he was being noticed. He allegedly reached her on Instagram, and Lil Mama provided the phone number for “David” who works for her. According to Bellamy’s video, David promised to incorporate him in Lil Mama’s video but a lack of funds for the video made it impossible for Bellamy to attend the shooting. Bellamy questions whether David’s words were true because of music video’s costumes, sets, and dancers.
“What I’m saying is you did the song without my permission, without my consent,” said Bellamy. He announced on Facebook earlier today that his own music video for the song will be shot on Friday.
