ScHoolboy Q has decided to take some time to mourn the loss of his close friend and collaborator, Mac Miller. The TDE rapper recently announced that he will be delaying his forthcoming album because of Miller’s sudden death.
“I just don’t feel right putting out an album,” he said during a recent show. “As y’all can tell, I’m not my real self right now.”
The L.A. native explained to the crowd that while he does have enough content to drop a project, he’s holding back for a bit. “I shouldn’t even be here right now. But like I said, my ni**a Mac would not want me to be in the house sad. He would clown me for some weird s**t. I’m here today because it’s no way he would allow me to sit in the house and be a little b**ch. I’m not gonna’ be a little b**ch.”
He also admitted that he’s not in the mood to answer questions about Miller. “I’m just not ready to walk into the radio station and the first thing they ask me is, ‘So Mac Miller…I’m not ready to deal with those questions. So, right now, I’m not ready to put out nothing.”
Miller, 26, was found dead from a suspected drug overdose earlier in the month. In a 2013 interview with Hip-Hop DX, the Pittsburgh native talked about his strong bond with TDE, particularly ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.
“I’ve been fans of them and all their projects that came out,” Miller said at the time. “Then, when we moved out here [Los Angeles], they just kind of came to the crib. [Ab-Soul] came to the crib and enjoyed himself and then [ScHoolboy] Q came through the crib so we just built a friendship. And we were just on tour with them so we were able to hang out every day.”
