Breakout youth talent Silento, legal name Ricky Hawk, had the whole world whipping and Nae Nae-ing with his radio-emerging single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” this summer.
The turn up just got realer since the Georgia-bred artist topped off on RIAA-certified platinum status with over one million sales. The record sold two million worldwide and racked up on 100 million Vevo views since its June release. Reveling in the early musical success, Silento was also presented with a plaque at the renowned L.A. Troubadour club as part of Capitol Records’ Third Annual Capitol Congress event. Many of the label’s artists were present during the mixer for talks of upcoming music projects to share with music executives and press.
In addition to its shiny, new platinum crown, the single also ruled No. 1 on iTunes in 15 countries and real-time UK Shazam Charts. Of course the most anticipated teen star gathering of the year, Teen Choice Awards, couldn’t leave the 17-year-old out either, as the Fox premiered awards show nominated Silento for the Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song category. His appearances on several daytime news shows continues the momentum, making waves on shows like Good Morning America and LIVE with Kelly and Michael.
