Though many Electric Zoo ticket holders were hurt and disappointed by its third day cancellation (for a second year), artists and DJs scheduled to perform that day have done their best to make up the lost time for fans and no one appreciates their fans more than American dubstep’s leader, Skrillex.
On August 31, Randall’s Island was expected to see and hear Diplo and Skrillex perform side by side as the collaborative entity Jack U but when New York was denied this, Skrillex made a point for the city’s citizens to receive the show they rightfully deserved. So on Thursday, September 5, the DJ instead paired up with SiriusXM to host a private Electric Area performance at the Lower East Side’s Slipper Room.
Anyone who happened to be in the area around 6 p.m. EST that day was free to come up the venue’s narrow staircase to find one of the world’s most requested DJs giving an exclusive Jack U demo to an enthused and pleasantly surprised crowd. There he was, the man who sold out five separate Brooklyn shows this past February, was dishing out a free private show for the stans.
The set was a well-choreographed composition of both the old and new school of bass and beats, including hip-hop, trap, bounce, and dubstep, creating such an intense head banging experience to the point where your neck could get sore. And of course Skrillex was head nodding in sync with the crowd, even getting up on the booth decks to keep the room’s energy high and strong, but hearing is believing so check out the full hour live set below, and be sure to keep your ears and eyes on Sirius XM Electro for the next guerrilla DJ performance.
