Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo is back with a new album dubbed The Great Debater Revisited, coming 2 years after his highly acclaimed debut, The Salvation.
Originally a mixtape released earlier this summer, the new deluxe edition features all sixteen original tracks with the addition of four never before heard bonus songs. In celebration of the release, Skyzoo held a live performance at the Apple store on 103 Prince Street in Soho.
Opening the event was New Jersey rap duo SneakerBox Chock and Bueller Da Don, who performed a moving set, stand out tracks include: “Move,” “Audio Mall,” and the Skyzoo-assisted single “Shoestrings” off their upcoming LP #Winning. They warmed up the stage and set an energetic tone for Skyzoo to enter.
When Sky finally did come out, he opened the set with the first track off Revisted. The track “Complicated Rhythm” were quickly followed by album cuts “Written In Drums,” “We Here,” and “Until It All Goes.” He then took it back and gave a crowd rocking performance of Bottom Line, a previous track from Salvation. Getting back to the new album he then performed Designer Drugs and Test Drive, for which he had his DJ stop the beat midway through and do a beyond impressive acapella freestyle to fill in for the original explicit lyrics. Watching him perform this was watching Hip Hop in its finest form.
He rounded it up by going into Frisbees, off his collaboration album with producer Illmind called Live From The Tape Deck, and Atypical before finishing the set with his biggest hit to date “Speakers On Blast.”
“I challenge myself every day. When I make records in the booth and sit down to write, I always think about what I previously did,” he said of the new album.
He continued: “I feel like what I write today should be better than what I wrote yesterday, and if it isn’t then I should’ve stopped yesterday.”
