With cover art as soulful as the sound, the St. Louis rapper pleads to his escape, “Anita” not to “flee from me” amidst all the “republicans” and n***as flexing through their stress.
The Blkjuptr artist says that with Donald Trump in office, “now is such an important time to be confident about blackness.” The track warrants enough confidence to bask in all of our melanated glory, due in part by his organic inspiration. After seeing Hidden Figures in theaters, Smino was distraught on how underrepresented black women are in history. So he set out to make something “to emphasize how raw a black woman is.”
Smith displays his privy to word play as he pairs “Anita” and “I need her.” Then later in the hook compares her cold looks to ice cream, prompts her to “show that chocolate (bars)” and spins the infamous candy-brand, Godiva, to tell his lady in question to “go diva, go diva, go diva.”
