Meek Mill is finally free! After spending nearly five months out of his two-to- four-year sentence in prison, new reports confirm that the Philly native was granted bail on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 24). Not only are Meek’s loyal fans ecstatic, but it seems as though most of the music industry and Hollywood is too. Many stars joined fans on social media to rejoice in Meek Mill’s return.
Kevin Hart, YG, T.I. and Tyrese were four of the first stars to share their excitement for Meek’s prison release. Hart, who reportedly saw the rapper just hours before the big announcement was made, shared a photo of them sitting court side at an NBA game on Instagram. “Meek Mill is Frrrrreeeeeeeee ….I just left from seeing him in jail with @michaelgrubin and we were just told that he is being released,” the comedian wrote. Woooooooow……Stand Up Philadelphia!!!!!
Meek’s prison sentence stems from a probation violation last year. Following the rough judgment, many fans and stars expressed outrage with the judge’s ruling. Shortly after, Meek’s legal team claimed the judge and arresting police officer were both guilty of misconduct in the rapper’s case. According to the PA Supreme Court’s official order, the alleged corrupt police officer who served as a “critical witness” in Meek’s original case, was cited as a reason for the early release, TMZ reports.
Meek also issued a statement of his own, expressing his gratitude for the love he received while in prison. “I’d like to thank God, my family, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time,” he wrote in a message on Twitter. “While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive… In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”
