Last year, Game of Thrones launched their fourth season with a promotional mixtape featuring tracks from some of the show’s biggest fans who represent hip-hop. With the show’s fifth season premiere on the horizon (April 12 for all you Stark/Lannister fanatics), the show’s producers have dropped teasers and clues, hinting at things to come. The next step? Continuing the Catch The Throne mixtape series to further drive home the point that “winter is coming”.
Catch The Throne 2 features collaborations featuring a who’s who of artists from Method Man, Ty Dolla $ign, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, Estelle, Stalley, Melanie Fiona, hard rockers Anthrax, Mastadon and Killswitch Engage to all interpolate themes from the show into personal songs. Snoop’s crafted a “Lannister’s Anthem”, Method Man swears by “The Oath”, Kap G wants you to “Surrender” and so on and so forth.
The variety of artists and subject matter give you an idea of what the massively popular show is all about. Good thing, there aren’t any spoilers to deal with. There’s the energy and angst of a rock record during battle mixed in with the pain and sorrow and death, wrapped in an R&B track. Prepare for April 12th’s long awaited premiere with Catch The Throne 2 here.
