Vince Staples’ profile has increased the past two years. The Long Beach native has already scored more than enough looks via his own work with tales of gangbangin’ in the LBC.
Now, it’s full-length album time and NPR has premiered Staples’ double-disc Def Jam debut Summertime ’06. Once preying on life with a confident mix of nihilism and hopes of something better, Staples’ staple formula has worked since his show-stealing features on Odd Future projects.
Summertime ’06 plucks production from lead man, No I.D., as well as group of beatsmiths including DJ Dahi, Clams Casino and Christian Rich, who are more than capable of matching Vince’s intensity and dark sincerity on the mic.
Spin Staples’ new heat before it hits iTunes on June 30.
