In July 2015, Suge Knight was arrested for reportedly injuring two men with his Ford F-150 Raptor truck in Compton, Calif. One victim, Terry Carter, died following the impact. The former Death Row Records founder pleaded not guilty to the occurrence, and remains incarcerated since he can’t meet the $10 million bail. Knight still awaits trial for the murder, which was delayed again on Wednesday (Feb. 22), the New York Daily News reports.
His son, Suge Jacob Knight, said that the experience his father is having in jail has been “extreme,” and law officials are “treating him like a mass murderer.” The news site adds that Knight is solely allowed to speak with his lawyer, and has yet to see his children and fiancee, Toi-Lin Kelly.
“Going in today and hearing my dad ask to be treated like a regular inmate, it actually hurt me,” Knight’s son said. “Why does he even have to ask for that? I feel like it’s taking time away from his actual case.”
The 21-year-old Fisk University student also took to his Instagram account to share his inner thoughts on what he believes is the unfair treatment of his father.
“I know sin is sin but what about mercy? I don’t know anybody who can sit in solitary confinement for two years and not speak to, nor choose his own lawyer,” he wrote. “When will they let him get the best chance to defend himself.”
Suge Knight has reported health ailments like blindness in one eye since his detainment.
