Swizz Beatz stopped by Beats 1 with Ebro to discuss the latest happenings in his life, as well as divulge on his predictions for this weekend’s Grammy Awards.
The super producer said that while the Album Of The Year race is tight, he has faith that Brooklyn bred Jay-Z will be taking the honor home on Sunday (Jan. 28).
“Everybody in that category, like, for the first time in a long time when you look at this category really put in work,” he explained. “I mean with the continuity on 4:44 was seamless. It was a body of work. It wasn’t based on a single. Like a lot of these records that we mentioned was based on singles and then the rest of it kind of gets lost.”
“You know Hov is still putting out stimulating visuals with strong messages and messaging movie like off of this particular record so it’s still active,” he continued. “I just think that the consistency of the messaging with Jay’s record, it kind of sticks probably a little bit more. I just think that I love that Jay took the risk with this one.”
Swizz also says he thinks that Migos’ Culture will take home the Best Rap Album award, over the likes of Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., Jay’s 4:44, Rapsody’s Laila’s Wisdom and Tyler, The Creator’s Flower Boy.
It’s very rare that you see a group coming from where the Migos came from, have the consistency, have the chart positioning, have the culture in a very well respected way,” he explained. “I could really see them being here for a long time actually contributing to the change of music which they’re doing now.”
