3) Swizzy Embraces Rap’s New Breed
Not content with just logging studio time with the headlining likes of Jay-Z, T.I., Lil’ Wayne and Mary J. Blige, Swizz has made it a point to work with a diverse palette of newcomers. From Maino’s “Million Bucks” to Gucci Mane’s “Gucci Time,” the ever-evolving producer is always looking for the next rap hero. Going for the easy lay-up is not part of Swizz’s game.
“He’s not afraid to work with the upcoming acts,” adds Shepherd. “A lot of people would discount Gucci Mane because they feel he is not real hip-hop. But Swizz understands that hip-hop has to evolve and even if you don’t like where it’s going, it’s going to end up in a good place eventually. Such open-minded thinking makes Swizz really flexible. He has shown that he has foresight that people don’t give him credit for.”
