SWV is on a serious comeback trail. They have released the remix to C. Breezy’s smash “She Ain’t You” which borrows from their 90’s hit “Right Here (Remix)” (courtesy of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”)
Having recently signed a new record deal with TK, the trio of Coko, Lelee and Taj are looking to bring that 90’s era magic to now. The first step was getting the feel for the original track they laid down.
“For me, I didn’t care for the [original] song when it was presented [to] me and had no clue it’d be as big as it is,” Coko explains, “So to have it come back around again is crazy!”
Legendary producer and founder of R&B group, Teddy Riley, handled the track the first go around when SWV recorded it, “It was an honor to work with Teddy on the original remix,” says Lelee.
While SWV blesses the new-new remix with Chris Brown in all it’s glory, all parties involved must thank the man who started it all. Taj recalls the memory fondly, “I remember feeling like royalty and honored after finding out we we’re the first artists allowed to use a Michael Jackson sample. Say word!”
Chris Brown isn’t lost in all this either, the ladies lament, “Shout out to Chris Brown for showing us love!!”
VIBE’s Editorial Director, Datwon Thomas traveled to Japan with the group as they toured Tokyo and Osaka earlier this year (before the tragic earthquake hit the region) as the ladies wowed the international crowds at the Billboard Live venues.
“It was amazing to see the love they received during and after every show from the fans that could barely say their names, but knew all the words to their songs,” expressed Thomas. “The same way those fans love SWV abroad, the fans here at home will finally get to show their support when their new project drops, for one of the great groups of our time.”
