2. Sometimes It’s Better To Read Between The Lines
There are a few way to answer a peer during a much talked about showdown. Two of them? You can either go the Tupac Shakur route and let off a great big ‘fuck you’ to everyone and their mamas (see: 1996’s “Hit ‘Em Up”) or you can make like Kanye and Taylor and keep it slick and engaging. And both artists made their points in decidedly different manners. “Who you are is not what you did…You’re still an innocent,” Swift sang of West’s disastrous stage faux pas. “You’ll have new Septembers/ Every one of us has messed up too…”
Kanye, who has since apologized profusely for the outburst heard around the world, his previous mea culpa coming via Twitter, tapped into his well-earned reputation for being a jackass producing some genuine laugh-inducing moments. “Let’s have a toast for the douchbags/Let’s have a toast for the scumbags/Let’s have a toast for the assholes/Every one of them that I know/Let’s have a toast to the jerkoffs/That’ll never take work off, baby…” There’s truth in humor.
