Top Dawg Entertainment, a.k.a. the dons of the West, moves in silence. We don’t hear much from TDE’s co-president Punch, but when he does speak, his words are packed with meaning as opposed to nonsensical swagger.
Over the weekend, Punch released a new song dubbed, “Gold.” Here, Punch gets reflective as he spews knowledge about real-life situations that gel to form his authentic character.
On the song’s hook Punch borrows from Jay Z’s “Lucky Me,” a song from Hov’s (who turned 47 yesterday (Dec.4) In My Lifetime Vol. 1.
I’ve been told everything that glitters ain’t gold/And now that I’ve arrived/I’ve seen those truths unfold before my eyes in a world so cold.
Punch releases music sporadically. About two months ago he released “40 Years.” And back in March he told Billboard.com that he had plans to release an album, but there is no set date.
In other TDE news, Ab-Soul is slated to release his album DWTW in the near future. The Black Lip Pastor recently released “Huey Knew,” and has appeared on tracks with Danny Brown (“Really Doe”), Bas (“Housewives (Remix)”) as well as Rapsody (“2am”).
