Despite his music gaining a host of famous fans like Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, there are still many music listeners who aren’t here for the meteoric rise of Tekashi 6ix9ine.
Students at the University Of Central Florida are protesting the controversial Brooklynite’s concert, which is scheduled to take place at their institution on Sept. 22. According to WFTV, the concert was scheduled to take place at the CFE Arena, which can be found in the center of the college’s campus.
UCF students are hoping that they can garner enough support for their petition to get the school to cancel the show. As it’s been written in the news, Tekashi faces jail time after violating his probation stemming from a 2015 felony charge for his use of a minor in a sexual performance.
“I just can’t believe someone like this would be considered on a university campus to perform,” said student protestor Noemi Teutsch. “As far as I’m concerned, they are endorsing, and they are condoning his behavior because they’re allowing him to come on campus to perform. I honestly think it’s ridiculous. It makes no sense whatsoever. Because at some point, you have to draw the line somewhere.”
UCF officials noted that outside performers can rent the CFE Arena space if they choose, but that does not mean that the institution supports or condones their behavior.
