The news of two slain police officers in Brooklyn rocked the nation yesterday (Dec. 21) as the news came during the height of protests against police brutality. Following the shooting that left the two members of the NYPD dead as well as the shooter, social media timelines were flooded with reactions. And one person’s reaction raised a few eyebrows: The Game’s.
Taking to Instagram page with a photo of a headline that reads “2 NYPD cops shot dead ‘execution-style’ as ‘revenge’ for Garner,” the L.A. rapper – who gathered a barrage of rappers for a Mike Brown tribute song – accompanied the photo with the following caption:
“I guess y’all “can’t breathe” either. #RIPEricGarner#AllLivesMatter #ShitHasToChange #Now”
Immediately receiving backlash, The Game wrote another post with a length explanation for his statement. Sharing a photo of police officers donning “I Can Breathe” shirts, the rapper stated that his caption was a “direct response” to the image. Standing by his original comment, he also expressed a disregard for anyone’s reaction to his opinion:
“Do I like police: NO !!! Do I hate police: NO !!! Have I experienced more police abusing their authority than not: YES !!! So that’s why “I” say FUCK THE POLICE !!! That’s “MY OPINION”…. Does that mean I think it’s dope that 2 innocent cops were murdered: NOPE. But does it change my view on crooked police: NOPE !!!”
