It’s been five years since British electro alt-pop group The xx dropped an album. But that all changed today (Jan. 13) as the crew returned with their long-awaited third effort, I See You. The 11-track project, which is lead with lead by the singles “On Hold” and “Say Something Loving” is featureless — but still exceptional.
I See You is the follow-up to the trio’s 2012 Coexist album. In a recent interview on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio, The xx admitted that Jamie xx’s solo career brought inspired the group to get back in the studio.
“Going to Jamie’s shows definitely lit a fire under us,” Sim said during the interview. “We wanted to be up there. We were so proud of Jamie but we were like ‘We want this again’. It drove us to work on the songs that we had to make sure that they were the best songs they could be.”
