Apparently, like Jay Z tweeted a couple of days ago, his new music streaming service TIDAL is doing just fine. That it is, but there have been some discrepancies when it comes to its pricing. At first, TIDAL’s premium plan—which gives consumers limited access to its library at 320 kbps—was priced at $9.99 (the same price Spotify charges for a similar service).
Starting today, at first glance it looks like TIDAL bumped up its subscription rates. On the phone app, it’s showing that it’s now $12.99 a month and the company’s HIFI service, which enlists lossless, high-fidelity audio, has jumped from $19.99 to $25.99 a month.
However, some reports are claiming it’s not the case. According to The Verge, there’s a small pricing difference in TIDAL website and TIDAL iOs app prices due to Apple’s own fees.
Apple takes 30 percent of the revenue made through apps in the App Store, so in order for TIDAL to cover those fees, signing up through their iOs app will cost a little more.
